Michael Lateur is a managing director in the Austin office of Duff & Phelps and is part of the Tax Services practice with specific oversight and responsibility in Property Tax Services and Site Selection and Incentives Advisory. He has over 15 years of experience primarily related to property tax and site selection and incentives advisory services.
Michael specializes in the structuring and negotiating of government-sponsored economic development incentives packages as well as is responsible for the management and execution of incentive and property tax consulting engagements on a nationwide basis on behalf of his clients. He has additional specialization relating to oilfield service companies, corporate relocations, manufacturing, automotive, wind energy facilities, and transportation and logistics industries. His experience includes incentive negotiations, personal and real property valuation appeals, pre/post acquisition due diligence, litigation support, personal property compliance and property tax exemptions.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Michael was a property tax advisor with Thomson Tax and Accounting, and Deloitte & Touche (PTS group acquired by Thomson in October 2007). Prior to joining Deloitte, Michael was a property tax appraiser at The Travis County Appraisal District where his responsibilities included personal property valuations and representing the county at appraisal review board hearings.
Michael received his B.B.A from the McCoy School of Business at Texas State University. He is a National CCIM designee, and a member of the Energy Educators Committee for the Petroleum Equipment & Services Association (PESA), National Association of Realtors, Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT), Austin Board of Realtors and Texas Real Estate Commission. Michael also holds an active Property Tax Consultants license and sits on the Credits & Incentives IPT Committee. Michael was a presenter at the 2013 & 2014 COST (Council on State Taxation), 2015 Industry Week Roundtable Series, IPT conferences as well as numerous public hearings for state and local government programs.
